Paul Philpott, MD: Devon and Plymouth Chamber Board nomination

As part of the process, a 300 word biography and statement is submitted:

Born and happily spending lockdown in Plymouth, I am MD of Fresh Air Studios, a corporate production company, with national clients like Three, Royal Mail, and two of the top five banks. We record IVR systems and produce audio contacts: from B2B to French & Saunders - it's all very varied!

A former presenter on Plymouth Sound Radio, years ago, I’m now mostly known for my love of wine, travel and fitness – in equal double-measures.

A driven, creative and passionate business owner, an avid supporter of all things SME and dedicated to delivering the absolute best level of customer service, innovation and support, to clients and collaborators.

The past year has been a challenging time for all: My approach has been to work hard on service innovation, diversification and providing mutual support to fellow business owners.

I relish solving problems for customers and developing trusted relationships with other businesses. An avid participant in activities for Devon and Plymouth Chamber of Commerce, I am keen to promote South West SMEs.

The agility and dedication of small businesses is something that should be celebrated, and I encourage local procurement where possible. I’m not a fan of red tape, I’d much rather work towards a ‘can do’ outcome wherever possible.

I have worked on several voluntary/partnership projects for the Chamber such as its podcast: helping the Chamber engage with members and the wider community. We also provided event production services for Access to Finance Live - bringing a new dimension to the 'webinar' and audience engagement. The hope is a board position will help develop new ideas (for us and other contributors) to further coverage.

The South West has so much to offer, and I am keen to ensure that we diversify and modernise our offering as a region, grasping new opportunities. Are we doing enough to ensure our region is represented, and that we have a voice in the conversations that matter?

I’m sure we can do more. I’d like to do my bit to help.

Making noise

Our expertise in creating engaging content is utilised by our clients to improve colleague engagement, learning, and communicating with customers. We also provide studio linkups for voiceover artists and actors. These have massively increased throughout the recent Covid crisis, resulting in several ADR (dialogue) sessions for Netflix Studios in Hollywood (Example credit: The Magicians Elephant, cinema 2022), 20th Century Fox (Example credit: Death on The Nile, cinema 2021), narrations for Television (Example credits: Jennifer Saunders’ Memory Lane with Martin Sheen, ITV. A Baby Reindeer’s First Christmas, Channel 4) plus several ‘cinematic’ computer games.
