What is an audio press kit?

An audio press kit (or APK) is a collection of audio which provides journalists with additional resources to help cover your story. APKs are frequently used by the film industry to distribute sound-bites for coverage on radio programmes
and entertainment news.

The traditional method of distributing an APK is via audio CD, but can also be circulated as mp3 files electronically, attached to emails and made available as a website download.

What can I do with my APK?

You can use the audio to obtain coverage on Broadcast Radio and Internet Radio services, as a feature on your website, circulate it as an email attachment, use it for the opening to a presentation – the possibilities are numerous.

The aim of the APK is make your press release stand out! Even if you are targeting print-based media, journalists will find the APK an interesting and distinctive approach. It gives them something to listen to at their leisure, it is compelling, and they can use it as a reference – almost as though it was their own interview.

How can Fresh Air Studios produce an APK for me?

The standard package consists of the following production concepts:

Audio Press Release

We will take your existing press release, rewrite it (if necessary) so it’s voiceover-friendly, and provide an audio recording of the information.

Interview

Using one of our experienced voiceovers/presenters, we also suggest recording an interview with your spokesperson about the subject. We’ll write a set of questions which you will clear before the interview takes place – but we will still allow the interview to follow the format of a natural, comfortable conversation, so we get the best from your spokesperson.

Interviews are conducted from our radio production studio, but you don’t have to travel anywhere. In true editorial fashion, interviews can take place via telephone link-up, or via studio-to-studio ISDN link.

Post production editing and sound bites

We will provide you with a ‘raw’ copy of the interview footage with only minimal editing i.e. the removal of the pre-interview chat and any obvious mistakes.

We will also provide you with an edited version: taking what we consider the best parts in order to provide a concise interview fit for broadcast.

In addition to this we will provide a set of sound-bites: short interview clips that journalists can use for quotes.

What does the standard package include?

Our standard package includes production of the concepts mentioned earlier:

• An audio version of your press release
• An interview conducted via telephone
• A raw edit of the interview
• A fit-for-broadcast edit of the interview
• A selection of sound-bites

Note: Standard service uses telephone link-up only, maximum call duration 60 minutes to destinations within the UK. Calls to other countries will be billed at cost (we can provide an estimate). ISDN studio to studio links are available, and are subject to quotation.

What limitations are there in the use of my APK?

You may only use the audio for publicity and promotional purposes i.e. to obtain coverage for your products, services and news in the media. You cannot use the audio as the soundtrack to a television or radio advertisement: these uses carry different voiceover and music licensing costs.

All press release APK production briefs are subject to approval and availability.

Audio is provided to you electronically via a secure download area so you can easily write to your own CDs or publish on your website for download. Fees are for production services only and do not include distribution of your APK or on-line hosting.
