Press Release: 25-08-08 Plymouth’s Theatre Royal Increases Accessibility to its Autumn Season with its Latest Audio Brochure

Another exciting Autumn Season is announced at Plymouth’s Theatre Royal and Drum Theatre with the help of an audio brochure produced and written by Fresh Air Studios and recorded by professional voiceover and actor Jon Iles.

The Theatre Royal aims to make their facilities and performances accessible to as wide an audience as possible, and one of the methods they use is providing an audio brochure of their forthcoming productions. The brochure can be requested by anyone who would prefer audio to the written brochure but is especially aimed at enabling those with visual impairments to learn about the many compelling shows and plays they can enjoy at the Theatre Royal and Drum Theatre each season.

Fresh Air Studios has been creating the audio brochure since early 2007, with the help and support of the Theatre’s advertising agency; Orgill Advertising. Fresh Air Studios have taken the existing written brochure and turned it into an engaging audio production. Actor and voiceover Jon Iles takes listeners on a journey through the myriad of events that are taking place each season and gives information on the dates, times, ticket prices and special access details, as well as a summary of what each show is about.

Local actor and voiceover, Jon Iles, has travelled the world appearing on stage, and spent ten years appearing in ITV’s The Bill. He is particularly pleased to be linked to the project:

“Having been an actor for over 20 years, I have a huge fondness for live theatre and the audio brochure is a great way of extending the theatre’s reach to people who may have limited access. I hope my genuine enthusiasm makes it an enjoyable way to hear the new season’s programme.”

The Theatre Royal and Drum Theatre’s audio brochure is presented on a CD that can be navigated easily, with each track featuring a new show, and has proven a hit not only with the visually impaired but also with patrons who enjoy the opportunity to listen to the CD at their convenience, whether at home, in the car or on a personal CD player.

The audio brochure is a welcome addition to the Theatre Royal and Drum Theatre’s continuing commitment to greater accessibility and awareness.
