Press Release: 18-02-09 Time to Visit ScotlandWant a Deep Chocolaty Movie Trailer Voice?
Ever wondered how movie trailer voices manage to sound so deep and rich? Well, according to voiceover Jon Iles, the speed of the script, time of day and consumption of drink can play a big part in the power and gravity of the delivery.
We’ve all heard them: powerful, dramatic deep voiceovers promoting the latest blockbuster action film, accompanied by equally theatrical music and sound effects. Of course, talent and natural ability play an important role in the voiceover’s delivery but anyone contemplating creating such an epic production would be wise to find out when the voiceover is at his most resonant.
Voiceover and actor Jon Iles recently lent his voice to the latest “Visit Scotland” production from Scope Productions, created in the style of a spoof movie trailer. Talking to Jon he admitted that he is always at his best on these recordings during the afternoon than in the morning:
“I love doing movie trailers… spoof or otherwise. ….you’ll have noticed that less is more in the hot- chocolate- voice- movie- trailer- world… The more words, the faster the read, ergo: higher voice… Especially in the morning when my voice is half an octave higher than pm… unless I have half a bottle of brandy and a cigar, but, having tried that, I find it’s a bit over-indulgent on top of my usual breakfast bottle of voddy…………..”
You have been warned. Next time you are planning your movie trailer for the new Steven Spielberg blockbuster, make sure your voiceover is ready to sound more action movie than Mickey Mouse cartoon.
